Legendary India opener Virender Sehwag has named his Indian playing XI for the T20 World Cup 2024. Sehwag, in his team, did not name Hardik Pandya, the stand-in captain for the Indian team. Speaking on Club Praire Podcast alongside Adam Gilchrist, Sehwag instead opted between Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh as the lower middle order batter.
Sehwag’s decision to exclude Pandya from his playing XI was based on the all-rounder’s current form. Pandya has been struggling with both bat and ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 since his high-profile transfer to Mumbai Indians (MI). He has been booed by the fans both home and away and has looked troubled while batting and bowling.
In place of Pandya, Virender Sehwag opted for either Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh as the lower middle-order batter. Both players have shown promise and could provide the necessary firepower down the order.
Apart from Pandya, Virender Sehwag also left out Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh from his team. Instead, he named Sandeep Sharma in his bowling unit. Sharma has been in tremendous form after being named as a replacement in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side and Sehwag hoped that the player would get his due in the T20 World Cup.
Virender Sehwag’s Playing XI
Sehwag’s playing XI for the T20 World Cup 2024 includes Rohit Sharma ©, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Sandeep Sharma.
The swashbuckling batter clarified that Hardik will make it to the 15-member squad that India will pick in the final days of April, but chose not to field him in his playing XI. Pandya has been in poor form with both bat and ball in the Indian Premier League since his high-profile transfer to MI. Pandya has been booed by the fans both home and away and has looked troubled while batting and bowling.
