Slow over rate Penalty for KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad

The match, held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, saw both teams falling short of the required over-rate. This violation of the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences led to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposing the fines.

“Mr KL Rahul, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 34 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rahul was fined INR 12 Lac,” the IPL statement read.

“Mr Ruturaj Gaikwad, Captain, Chennai Super Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 34 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined INR 12 Lac,” another IPL statement read.

The fines were the minimum penalty since it was the first offence of the season for both teams. Despite the victory for LSG and KL Rahul’s exceptional performance, earning the Player of the Match award for his impressive 82 off 53 balls, the fine put a damper on the celebrations. On the other hand, the fine added to the woes for CSK and Gaikwad, who had a modest individual performance and a team loss to contend with.
