IPL 2022 – Match 69 Review: MI shatters DC playoff hopes to finish the season on a high

Mumbai Indians(MI) ended their campaign on a high note with a 5-wicket win over Delhi Capitals(DC) in the 69th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) on Saturday, May 21 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl. MI had made two changes for the game and there was no Arjun Tendulkar in the XI while Delhi Capitals brought back Prithvi Shaw for the big game.  Mumbai Indians got off to a great start as Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams wiped off the Delhi Capitals top order.

Prithvi Shaw looked to show some resistance but a vicious short ball from Bumrah saw his innings end for just 24. Rovman Powell and Rishabh Pant then did the rebuilding work for Delhi with their half-century stand, but as they looked to tally huge runs in the death overs. However, their innings were cut short.

Ramandeep Singh went on to end Pant’s knock while Bumrah’s lethal yorker sent Powell back for 43. Delhi eventually finished with 159 for seven in their must-win game.

Delhi Capitals showcased Chasing a target of 160, MI had lost Rohit Sharma early in their chase. However, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis put them back in the contest, before both were dismissed in quick succession. Tim David and Tilak Varma played brilliant cameos of 34 and 21 as MI chased down the total with five balls to spare. The win ensured DC are out of the race to the playoffs and hence RCB have managed to seal the final playoffs spot.
