India and Pakistan have a long history of cricket rivalry, often compared to the Ashes Test rivalry between England and Australia. However, due to rising political tensions, the two nations have not engaged in bilateral cricket relations since the 2012-13 season. The last Test match between India and Pakistan took place way back in 2007.

Rohit Sharma emphasized the potential for an exciting contest and its positive impact on Test cricket. He stated, “I would love to. At the end of the day, we want to be in the contest. I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesn’t even matter. It’s pure cricket that I am looking at. I am not interested in anything else. It will be a great contest so why not.”

The Indian captain also suggested that the series could take place at a neutral venue. He expressed his belief that the Pakistani team, particularly their bowling lineup, would provide a good contest, especially if the series were held in overseas conditions.

The anticipation for this proposed series is further heightened by the upcoming highly-anticipated match between India and Pakistan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on June 9. The historical context adds to the excitement, with India having a commendable record against Pakistan in T20 World Cup encounters, including memorable victories in 2007 and most recently in 2022.
