In the IPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory. The match, held at the Mullanpur Stadium, was a nail-biting thriller that went down to the last over.

Rohit Sharma helps Hardik Pandya

Rohit Sharma, the former captain of MI, stepped in to assist the current captain, Hardik Pandya, with field settings during the crucial last over. Young pacer Akash Madhwal was entrusted with the responsibility of defending 12 runs. Rohit’s experience and strategic acumen were instrumental in guiding Madhwal and the team during these tense final moments.

The match saw PBKS recovering from a precarious position of 14 for 4 and then 77 for 6, thanks to a counter-attack led by Ashutosh Sharma. Despite losing Shashank Singh for a 25-ball 41 in the 13th over, Ashutosh kept PBKS’s hopes alive with a sensational 61 off just 29 balls. However, MI managed to restrict PBKS to 183, successfully defending their total of 192.

Rohit Sharma’s involvement in the leadership discussions was evident throughout the contest. His calm demeanour and broad experience in leading MI to victories in high-pressure situations were invaluable. Even though Hardik Pandya is now the captain of MI, he did not hesitate to seek guidance from Rohit, one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
