The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known as a platform that elevates young talent into the limelight. Its motto is “Where talent meets opportunity” indicating that young and budding cricketers can make a name for themselves in the cricket fraternity after showcasing their talent on such a big stage. Many young batters have made full use of the opportunities they have got and shined this season. Here we look at some young batters who impressed everyone this season.
Here are five young Indian batters who have been impressive in IPL 2022:
Abhinav Manohar hails from Karnataka and has played crucial knocks for debutant Gujarat Titans in this IPL. He was bought for INR 2.6cr in the mega auction and has played to his potential. He played a critical finishing inning in the opening IPL encounter against LSG and over the season, has played many critical knocks to bail his team out of trouble. It was disappointing to see him getting dropped for the last two games but he has impressed everyone with his temperament.
4. Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma was previously known as the batter who continued playing after getting hit wicket in domestic. But the wicketkeeper has made a name for himself by playing valuable knocks for Punjab down the order and providing the key finishing touches with the bat. He has been so impressive that Punjab has appointed him as the designated keeper and has dropped big hitter Shahrukh Khan due to his ongoing form.
3. Abhishek Sharma
The Under 19 World Cup 2018 star has been SRH’s consistent performer at the top. He is currently in the top 10 run scorers of the 2022 edition of IPL. Abhishek has provided explosive starts to the orange army on plenty of occasions and the world’s one of the best batters Kane Williamson has been playing second fiddle to him. Sharma has amassed 330 runs in this season which includes 2 fifties. He has also won the Cred Powerplayer of the match on multiple occasions.
2. Ayush Badoni
The Delhi-born right-handed youngster Ayush Badoni took the competition by storm after scoring a half-century in his debut game. He bailed out LSG from a precarious position and showed the world his temperament. He is playing the role of a finisher in LSG as he can play cute shots towards the end of the innings. KL Rahul has even termed him as “Baby AB”. In the next couple of games, we went on to play the role of a finisher and won games for his team by himself. Many cricket experts have already predicted that the future is bright for the 21-year-old.
1. Tilak Varma
In a season to forget, Mumbai has made an amazing signing of Tilak Varma. At a time when all the marque batters of MI are struggling young Varma put his hand up and has contributed immensely to the team. He is MI’s highest run-scorer this season even in the presence of match-winners like Rohit, Kishan, and SKY. Tilak has been an excellent signing for MI and looks like a solid prospect for not only the franchise’s future but the nation’s future as well.
