India registered a 68-run win in the opening clash of five-match T20I series at the Brian Lara Stadium Tarouba in Trinidad on Friday, July 29.

Rohit Sharma made his way back into the team after being rested for the ODI series. While, Sanju Samson was announced as the replacement of star batter KL Rahul, who has been away with COVID scare. Men in Blue were put into bat and they got off to a strong start with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. However, India lost both Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession, putting West Indies on top.

The visitors kept on losing wickets at regular intervals before Karthik went on to the offense. His counter-attacking tactics worked wonders and took India to a strong total. Rohit Sharma led the pack with a brilliant 64 while Dinesh Karthik chipped up with an unbeaten 41 runs to take India to 190 for six after the end of stipulated 20 overs.

Defending a total of 191, Rohit Sharma and co. picked up a comprehensive win. The bowlers of the visiting team managed to run through Windies. The hosts struggled with the bat as wickets fell in quick succession. Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a couple of wickets each. While Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja tallied a wicket each.

The two teams are set to collide in the 2nd T20 at Warner Park on Monday, August 1.
