Virat Kohli, one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world, has recently been under scrutiny for his strike rate in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Critics have pointed out that his century against Rajasthan Royals, which came off 67 balls, was the joint-slowest in the history of the IPL. However, Rajkumar Sharma, Kohli’s childhood coach, has come forward to defend him against these criticisms.

Rajkumar Sharma slams criticism against Virat Kohli

Sharma has slammed the critics, stating that they are merely trying to grab headlines. He believes that these critics are not taking into account the context of the match and the situation of the team. According to Sharma, these critics are only speaking out to stay in the news, and they are using Kohli’s name to do so.

Sharma stated, “Some people who are saying this nonsense, I think they don’t know the context of the match, what the situation of the match was and how the team was struggling”. He further added, “They speak only to be in the news. Just because whenever you speak about a normal player, it does not bring you in the news headlines, but if you speak about a player like Virat Kohli, it brings you in the news headlines”.

Sharma also suggested that there is a lobby working against Kohli. He said, “Look, this is a lobby which is running an agenda. They’re just pushing an agenda, and as fans or true analysts, we don’t care about their agenda. See, the king will always be the king. A person who knows even the ‘C’ of cricket would never do such nonsense”.

Despite the criticism, Kohli has been performing exceptionally well in the IPL 2024 season. He has scored 316 runs so far at a strike-rate of 146.29. His performance has been crucial for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), especially considering that other key players in the team have been struggling for form.
