Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been suffering from the worst lean patch ever. Kohli has failed to score a century in almost three years had has failed to leave an impact like he used to do. He recently went through another poor series as the 33-year-old managed only 12 runs in his two outings in the recently concluded T20I series between India and England.

Many former cricketers and experts now believe that Virat Kohli should be dropped from the T20 team, which is a format where he averages 50. Experts are of the view that youngsters like Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson, who have been performing for a while and are in form, should be given a chance ahead of Kohli.

Kohli hasn’t been in great touch, whether it was the IPL, Test matches, or T20Is and many experts and former cricketers including Kapil Dev, Ajay Jadeja, and Venkatesh Prasad have directly or indirectly suggested that the former skipper on current form shouldn’t be selected, especially in the shortest format, given how some of the new players have performed.

The Virat Kohli conundrum

The first ODI will be played at the Oval in London where India recorded a historic test victory last year under the leadership of Virat Kohli. However, Kohli is not expected to feature in this game as several sources reported that he has sustained a groin injury which may rule him out of the playing XI.

It is safe to say that Kohli owns the ODI format, given that the great has more than 40 centuries in this format. And if Kohli regularly plays, he may get his touch back and come back in form. However, it seems like Kohli fans will have to wait till the second ODI to see a glimpse of him.

Highlights:

  • Virat Kohli seen in the streets of London with his family.
  • Kohli is likely to miss the 1st ODI due to a groin injury.
