Former Indian skipper and modern-day great Virat Kohli has returned to the Indian camp ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka where he is set to play his 100th Test match. As things stand currently, Kohli is supposed to play his 100th Test at Mohali on 4th March.
PCA set to felicitate Virat Kohli ahead of his 100th test
However, the historic test match will be played behind closed doors due to the ongoing covid pandemic. The PCA had on Saturday announced that the opening Test will be played behind closed doors, while the second Test, which incidentally is a day-night affair will be open for crowds at 50 percent capacity in Bengaluru. The PCA is also gearing up its preparations to felicitate the legendary batsman during the first Test.
Along with Kohli, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who also got a break after the 2nd T20I against West Indies, has joined the camp. Pant and Kohli had played constant cricket since the Test series against New Zealand at home. The rest of the team is supposed to land on Monday after the completion of the T20I series.
The duo batted at the nets and later underwent a light training session with the rest of the Test team members. Kohli was last seen in action during the limited-overs series against the West Indies. Besides the duo, the Test specialists Ravichandran Ashwin, Hanuma Vihari, Jayant Yadav, Umesh Yadav, KS Bharat, and rookie left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar also joined in.
The series will also mark the beginning of test captain Rohit Sharma, who replaces Virat Kohli in the longest format. Rohit is now India’s all-format captain and will lead India for the first time in Tests.
