Former Australia and Chennai all-rounder Shane Watson said he believes the Chennai Super Kings will not be hesitant to send MS Dhoni higher up the batting order, if an opportunity arises in their much-awaited IPL 2024 match against SRH in Hyderabad on Friday, April 5.

Chennai are in the top 4 of the IPL 2024 points table early in the season, having won two of their first three matches. The Super Kings were comfortably outclassed by Delhi in Visakhapatnam on March 31 as they failed to chase 192 on a good batting pitch.

Shane Watson has his say MS Dhoni’s Batting Position

MS Dhoni, known for his finishing skills, has traditionally batted lower down the order. However, there have been calls for him to bat higher, especially after his blistering knock where he hit 3 sixes and 4 boundaries for his 17-ball 36 not out, but it was too late for the Super Kings. Dhoni batted at No. 8 in that failed chase.

Shane Watson believes that CSK will not hesitate to promote MS Dhoni up the order if the situation demands it. He feels that Dhoni’s late entry in the game against DC was one of the reasons for CSK’s defeat. Watson expects CSK to learn from their mistakes and make necessary changes in their strategy.

“CSK will be learning from the little things that went wrong against the Delhi in their last game and make the most of the things that went incredibly well. One thing was Dhoni, the way he batted, coming in late in the game, which will mean that hopefully, he’ll move up the order when an opportunity presents itself, because he batted as well as I’ve seen him for a long time,” Shane Watson said.

“The lessons that CSK learned, that’s the reason why they’ve been so successful for so long because they’ll find out little elements they need to get better, they need to execute better and where they went wrong and they’ll learn from that. So they’ll be ready to go against Hyderabad,” he added.

CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, is known for its adaptability and learning from past games. The team has a history of bouncing back from defeats and making the most of their resources. Watson’s comments suggest that CSK might consider sending MS Dhoni higher up the order in their upcoming matches.

CSK will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This match will be crucial for CSK to return to winning ways and solidify their position in the top four of the IPL 2024 points table.
