Shane Warne, Australia’s legendary leg spinner who is also one of the highest wicket-taker in the longest format, is against the idea of picking Steve Smith in the T20 side. His views come after England completely dismantled Australia in the T20 World Cup on Saturday.
I love Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T/20 team: Shane Warne
Steve Smith is arguably the greatest test batsman in the modern era. His numbers in test cricket prove this fact. However, there has always been a question mark over his performances in the T20 format. Due to this, he is not considered a specialist all-format player.
Recently, Shane Warne came down hard on his team and questioned a few selections. He didn’t approve the selection of ace batter Steve Smith in the T20I side who failed against England in Dubai.
Warne stated that it was a poor selection from the Australian team barring Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. Smith who is considered one of the greatest batters in the longest format of the game, failed to get going against England as he collected just one run off five balls.
“Disappointing selection from Australia leaving Marsh out & Maxwell batting in the power play (he should always come in after power play). Stoinis should have gone in. Poor strategy & tactics from the Aussies. I love Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T/20 team. Marsh has to be !!” tweeted Warne.

Pakistan & England are showing how to play T20 cricket: Shane Warne
Warne further lauded the efforts produced by England and called them a proper T20 team. England chased down the small total of 125 runs with eight wickets and more than eight overs remaining. Jordan starred with the ball and Jos Buttler finished things off with his whirlwind innings.
Warne further appreciated Pakistan also who sit at the top in group two winning all their three games. Meanwhile, England is also the table-toppers from group one.
“Proper T/20 cricket that from England! Australia will hopefully learn how they need to play after that smashing, they copped from the Poms. Pakistan & England are showing how to play T20 cricket. Australia needs to change their thinking restyle of play plus the team!” he added.
