Sanju Samson is undoubtedly one of the most gifted and talented batsmen in the Indian setup. When he gets going, he can smash sixes for much and makes it look effortless. But somehow, he hasn’t managed to strengthen his place in the Indian squad.

Sanju Samson made his international debut way back in 2015 against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. But in six years, he has only played 10 T20Is and a solitary ODI which was against Sri Lanka this year.

The reason behind this is that Sanju hasn’t made full use of the opportunities he got. Also, he hasn’t been consistent enough to justify his talent. He always starts the IPL with a bang but fails to deliver consistent performances. Also, he hasn’t had a memorable season in the Indian domestic setup. In T20Is, the right-hander has scored only 117 runs at an average of 11.70 and an underwhelming strike rate of 110.37.

Sanju was a part of the Indian squad which toured Sri Lanka for a white ball series. He scored a run-a-ball 46 in the solitary ODI that he played. But he failed miserably in the three opportunities he got in the T20I series. Given that India has talent in abundance, one has to capitalize on the chances they get.

Now Sanju Samson has been dropped for the T20 series against New Zealand in November. He has fallen behind Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant in the wicket-keeper batsmen list. However, Sanju Samson is not only a good keeper, he is also an excellent fielder in the outfield and has made some remarkable saves and catches in the outfield.

After getting ignored, Samson dropped a tweet, indicating that if not contributing with the keeping gloves, he is more a handy outfielder. In four pictures, Samson can be seen diving full-stretch near the boundary ropes.

Sanju Samson in IPL

Samson has been a revelation in the IPL ever since he made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals way back in 2013. In 121 matches in the T20 league, the 26-year-old has scored 3068 runs at an average of 29.22 and an impressive strike rate of 134.21. This year marked his debut as the captain of the pink franchise.

Samson also has three centuries to his name in the IPL to go with a top score of 119 that he got against Punjab Kings earlier this year at the Wankhede Stadium in his debut game. In the 2021 edition of the IPL, the Young Turk notched 484 runs at an average of 40.33 and a strike rate of 136.72. Apart from the ton against PBKS, he also scored a couple of half-centuries. He ended the campaign as RR’s highest run-scorer.

Although the Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs, Samson managed to hog the limelight. He has also been exceptional for Kerala, his domestic team, in his career. In 193 T20 matches, Samson has scored 4725 runs with three tons and as many as 29 half-centuries. But despite his decent numbers, the rub of the green hasn’t gone his way as far as the Indian team is concerned.
