Rishabh Pant fined 24 lakhs for second consecutive slow over rate offense

Rishabh Pant, the Captain of Delhi Capitals has has been fined Rs 24 Lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate for the second consecutive time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This is the second instance and that too in consecutive matchs for Capitals skipper for a poor over rate.

The incident occurred during DC’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3, 2024, in Visakhapatnam. While Pant shone with the bat for Delhi along with Tristan Stubbs, the rest of the side failed to deliver as KKR scored 272 for 7 in 20 overs. This was the second highest score in the history of the IPL and set up a tough chase for DC.

Following the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement revealing that Pant was penalized as DC maintained a slow over-rate.

“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3,” said BCCI in an official release.

Since DC had been penalized for the same offence in their win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Pant was fined Rs 24 Lakh. The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 6 Lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.

Rishabh Pant and DC won’t have a lot of time to think about their loss to KKR as they will now travel to Mumbai to face MI on April 7, Sunday. Both teams are languishing at the bottom of the table with MI winless so far in the three games that they have played.
