The day started with Sri Lanka trailing at 108 for four. Sri Lankan duo of Charith Asalaka and Pathum Nissanka stitched a 59 run stand in the morning before Bumrah provided a breakthrough. After Asalanka’s dismissal, everything went downhill for Sri Lanka as they lost 6 wickets in a span of 11 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja was the chief destroyer, as he took a five-wicket hall, just a day after scoring the highest individual score by an Indian batter at no. 7. Young Pathum Nissanka was the only positive from Sri Lanka’s perspective as the right-hander scored an unbeaten 61.

Sri Lanka was all out for 174 and Indian captain Rohit Sharma enforced a follow-on in his first match as test captain.

Indian bowling lineup proved to be too good for the Sri Lankans as they dismissed the opposition on the same day for 178. Ravindra Jadeja was once again the leading wicket-taker in the innings as the left-arm spinner took 4 wickets which took his tally of wickets to 9 in the match. His counterpart Ashwin also took 4 wickets as Shami chipped in with a couple as well.

The only shining light from Sri Lanka in the second innings was their wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella who scored an unbeaten 51. However, his resilience couldn’t stop India from clinching victory by a massive margin of an innings and 222 runs.
