India’s former head coach, Ravi Shastri, who played a pivotal role in India’s successful overseas test campaign over the past years, reserved some high-quality praise for the upcoming South African young talent in Keegan Petersen. Keegan Petersen was vital in South Africa’s win against a strong Indian side in a high octane test series.
Petersen reminds Ravi Shastri of legendary Gundappa Viswanath
The South African young star scored twin fifties in the third Test in Cape Town and was rightfully adjudged the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series. Petersen ended the three-match series with 276 runs in six innings, which was also the most runs scored by a batter in the series.
Ravi Shastri revealed that the South African batter reminded him of his childhood hero, the legendary Gundappa Viswanath. Shastri also said ‘KP’ was a great initial, referring to the former England skipper Kevin Pietersen, one of the legends of modern-day cricket.
“Keegan Peterson (KP). Excellent initials (@KP24). A great world player in the making. My childhood hero Gundappa Vishwanath comes to mind #SAvIND,” Shastri tweeted.

The legendary Gundappa Vishwanath who played 91 Tests and 25 ODIs for India, possessed supple wrists which he used to great effect in playing square cuts. He was also not tall height-wise. Keegan Petersen possesses similar physical traits and is also equally wristy.
Now the focus will shift to ODIs where KL Rahul will be leading the Indian team for the first time in the 50-over format. The ODI series will commence on the 19th and the second and third ODIs will be played on 21,23 January respectively.
Highlights:
• Ravi Shastri praised Keegan Petersen and compares him with Gundappa Vishwanath.
• Keegan Petersen was awarded the player of the match for the final testy and player of the series for his valuable runs in the series.
