The most successful team of IPL is having their most disappointing season as they have been forced to bring in seasoned campaigner Dhawal Kulkarni, who may be considered for the remaining IPL games if he does well in the training sessions. The veteran was with the MI squad last year but went unsold in the mega auction this year.
Dhawal Kulkarni transitions from a commentator to a player
According to IPL sources, the 33-year-old right-arm pacer has joined the team’s bubble and will start training soon. Kulkarni was part of the commentary team of the official broadcaster before being approached by the five-time champions. If Kulkarni goes on to play a match, he will become the second player, after David Hussey, to commentate and play a game in the same IPL season.
As for Mumbai Indians, they are having a season to forget as they are yet to win a game this year. This can be attributed to the poor bowling lineup they bought at the auction table. No bowler has been able to compliment Jasprit Bumrah and they have tried all possible combinations.
The performances of left-arm pacers Jaydev Unadkat (six wickets and 190 runs conceded from five matches) and Daniel Sams (six wickets and 209 runs conceded from five matches) have been pretty ordinary.
Other pacers including the likes of Basil Thampi, Meredith, and Mills haven’t been up to the mark as well. In this scenario, Dhawal Kulkarni will bring in his experience of 92 matches where he has taken 86 wickets after making his debut, way back in 2008.
MI fans would be hoping that Kulkarni brings in some luck to their sinking ship and finally register a win against their name.
