CSK’s official website confirmed the news while more details on the matter are yet to come. Jadeja is only the third captain of CSK in the history of IPL with Suresh Raina being the other apart from MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings are set to face Kolkata Knight Riders in a repeated clash of the IPL 2021 finals where CSK had the upper hand at the end. Now, two new captains from both teams would be entering the field as Shreyas Iyer was roped in by the Knights at the mega auction and was appointed as Eoin Morgan’s successor.

Speaking of Dhoni’s captaincy, he has ended it on a high as he lead the yellow army to its fourth IPL title last year. Under his leadership, CSK scripted a comeback from a poor 2020 season.

This will be the first time that MS Dhoni will play as a player for CSK since IPL’s inception. Also, this will be the second season for MS Dhoni where he won’t be captaining an IPL team. The previous season was in 2017 when he was representing the Rising Pune Super Giants.

This is also the first time that CSK will be led by a different player in a full-time capacity and this clearly indicates that Dhoni is preparing the franchise to move on from him. It is still unclear if this will be his last season but for the first time, he will play in the yellow jersey as a player.
