Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is an integral part of Team India and he is currently having a great outing in the ongoing Test Series between Indian and South Africa in the Rainbow Nation. In the first innings of the 1st Test, which is underway at SuperSport Park in Centurion, he picked up a fifer and followed it by picking the wicket of Aiden Markram in the second innings. Shami also picked his 200th wicket in this Test. Several cricketers lauded Shami’s performance in the first innings, including former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra.
Mohammed Shami lauded for his wrist position while bowling
In his latest YouTube video, Chopra mentioned that Shami’s wrist position is the best in the world. He also compared Shami to legends like England pacer James Anderson and South Africa speedster Dale Steyn while terming the Bengal pacer as one of the finest bowlers at this time.
“Mohammed Shami’s wrist position isn’t the best in the world? I think it is”, he said. I have seen many players. About wrist position, what I am trying to say is, that means that the seam won’t wobble. I mean, what a bowler!”
“His wrist sends such amazing deliveries. We have seen everyone’s wrist getting bad at one point or other. Even the great Dale Steyn and even Jimmy Anderson. But for Shami, I have never seen his wrist go bad. His backspin is very beautiful. Mohammed Shami is one of the finest at this point of time”, he added.
Aakash Chopra mentioned that South African bowlers looked a little rusty because they hadn’t played Test cricket for quite some time. He also stated that Shami last played an international game during the T20 World Cup, but it never looked like he was out of match practice.
Team India are eyeing to pick up the victory on Day 5 of the opening Test Match against South Africa. South Africa currently stand at 169/7 as of this writing and have been given a task to reach a total of 305 runs.
