Day 2 of the world’s biggest cricket league will feature two games on a super Sunday. The first clash of the day will be between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This will be the first IPL game played at the Brabourne Stadium since IPL 2015.
Till last year, MI had all the bases covered and without a doubt had the most well-balanced T20 side in the world. However, the mega auctions have changed all of that. In the initial few games, Mumbai is likely to miss the services of Suryakumar Yadav who is recovering from an injury. Mumbai will also miss Jofra Archer for the entire IPL 2022.
However, this is a great chance for young cricketers like Tilak Verma and Anmolpreet Singh to make full use of the opportunity they will be getting. Also, Tymal Mills will be trying to fill the void of Jofra and form a deadly bowling tandem with Bumrah. MI have confirmed that their openers will be captain Rohit Sharma and keeper Ishan Kishan. Mumbai’s powerful middle-order will consist of veteran Kieron Pollard and the most expensive Australian buy Tim David.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals is probably the most affected team due to the unavailability of players. They will miss the services of key players like David Warner and Mitchell Marsh who are currently on international duty. They will also be without the likes of Mustafizur Rehman and Lungi Ngidi who are in South Africa for the ongoing bilateral series.
However, a huge blow for the team will be Anrich Nortje, who has suffered a hip injury and it’s not certain if he will play this year. In the absence of so many crucial players, Delhi will rely heavily on its domestic talent. Currently, they have only two overseas players in Tim Siefert and Rovman Powell. Hence, this is set to be a huge test for the skipper Rishabh Pant as to how he manages his team given that he has so less resources.
WAGING ODDS: MI (1.61) VS DC (2.30)
MI are the favorites in the day game and are priced at 1.83, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹183.
DC are the underdogs and priced at 2.30, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹230.
Mumbai Indians should be able to win the day encounter given that DC would be operating with fewer resources. Also, Mumbai Indians playing in Mumbai will give them crowd support and huge confidence. However, no one should entirely rule out DC as you can expect anything from the IPL.
