IPL 2022 – Match 7: LSG secure first ever win with a mammoth chase

The debuting side Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) tallied their first-ever victory in the Indian Premier League(IPL) as they defeated Chennai Super Kings(CSK) by six wickets on Thursday, March 31 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Ravindra Jadeja-led side were invited to bat first. LSG captain Rahul had confirmed that Andrew Tye will make his debut, and will replace Mohsin Khan in the playing XI. Moeen Ali also returned for CSK as the defending champions made a series of changes. Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube helped CSK pile a staggering 210 runs at the expense of seven wickets. Robin Uthappa was the stand-out performer for CSK as he led the way with a stupendous half-century while Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali also played brilliant cameos.

However, the total was not enough to win the contest as they could not restrict LSG. Ayush Badoni emerged with the heroics for LSG as he hit the winning runs, while Evin Lewis, who also returned unbeaten played a match-winning 23-ball 55, which featured six 4s and three 6s.

The game saw some twists and turns in the penultimate over of the Lucknow innings, which changed the whole scenario. The over was bowled by Shivam Dube. The medium-pacer conceded 25 runs in the over which left Mukesh Choudhary to defend 9 runs in his final over. LSG wrapped up the 211-run chase and impressed the fans. This marked the fourth-highest run chase in the history of the competition, with three balls to spare.

LSG are set to face SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday, April 4, while CSK will face Punjab Kings on Sunday, April 3
