Fortunately, the other Indian players who had traveled with Sundar had tested negative. Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Yuzuvendra Chahal, and Prasidh Krishna were the other players to travel with Sundar on the flight from Bengaluru.

“Sundar has tested positive and he has been isolated from other players. All other players’ reports came negative. They are undergoing a three-day quarantine period. Once they get three negative reports, these players will go into the Indian team bubble,” a BCCI official told as quoted by Indian Express.

Indian spinner Jayant Yadav, who is a part of India’s Test squad, has been asked to stay back for the ODIs as Sundar’s backup. Jayant Yadav has played just one ODI in his career which was against New Zealand in 2016. On the other hand, Sundar was set to play his first game since the home series against England in March last year.

In the absence of front-line spinners like Axar and Jadeja, who were ruled out due to injuries, R Ashwin was called back into the ODI side. Kuldeep Yadav, who was the main reason why India dominated in South Africa, has run out of favor and looks like Ashwin will be India’s first-choice spinner now. KL Rahul will take up the leadership role in absence of injured Rohit Sharma for the ODI series.

Highlights:

• Jayant Yadav replaces Sundar in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.

• No other Indian player has tested positive barring Washington.
