James Anderson reveals his verbal spat with Shubman Gill during 5th test

On Day 2 of the test, England’s veteran pacer James Anderson and India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill were involved in a verbal spat. The exchange added sparks to an already intense contest, with both players showcasing their competitive spirit.

Anderson, while talking to the Tailenders podcast, said that he asked Gill if he gets any runs outside India. The pacer revealed that the Indian batter told him it was time to retire in response.

“Do you get any runs outside India?” asked Anderson. Gill, showing his mettle, retorted with a sharp remark, stating, “It’s time (for you) to retire.”. The incident took place on Day 2 of the fifth Test. Gill would go on to score 110 runs, which also included a beautiful lofted shot off Anderson for a six.

The verbal duel didn’t end there. Jonny Bairstow joined the fray on Day 3. Having heard about the exchange, Bairstow confronted Gill over his words with Anderson. The banter extended to the lack of centuries scored by each player in the series, creating a charged atmosphere on the field.

Despite the fiery exchanges, both players maintained their professionalism. Gill chose to keep the details of the verbal duel private during the post-match interview. However, Anderson revealed the details during an appearance on BBC’s Tailenders Podcast.
