The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been a rollercoaster ride with teams battling it out for a spot in the playoffs. The recent match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has significantly impacted the playoff scenarios, especially for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

RCB breath with a DC win against LSG

DC’s victory over LSG by 19 runs has brought immense joy to the RCB camp. This win has brightened RCB’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. RCB, who once languished at the bottom of the table, have made a remarkable comeback by winning their last five matches. They currently have 12 points from six wins.

The defeat of LSG means that they can now reach a maximum of 14 points. If both RCB and LSG finish with 14 points, RCB is likely to finish over the Super Giants due to a superior net run rate. RCB’s net run rate stands at +0.387, while LSG’s is -0.787.

However, RCB’s playoff qualification is not yet guaranteed. They still need a few more results to go in their favour. If Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wins at least one of their remaining two games against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), they would go out of RCB’s reach. In that case, RCB needs to beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs or chase a target in 18.1 overs.

If SRH loses both their matches, then there is a chance that both CSK and RCB go through to the playoffs. If the Challengers lose their last match, they would be knocked out of the competition. For the Capitals, they are yet to be officially knocked out, but their net run rate of -0.337 may not allow them a berth in the playoffs.

The IPL 2024 playoff scenarios have been significantly influenced by the recent match between DC and LSG. The result has brought delight to the RCB camp, brightening their chances of making it to the playoffs. However, the final picture will only become clear after the remaining matches.

Scenarios where RCB can qualify for playoffs

  • If SRH lose vs GT and PBKS, RCB beats CSK – Both CSK and RCB go through.
  • If SRH wins at least 1 match vs GT and PBKS, RCB must beat CSK by 18 runs or chase a target in 18.1 overs
