Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stalwart Virat Kohli is on the brink of achieving significant milestones in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as his team prepares to face Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Virat Kohli is on the brink of joining the elite list of players

Kohli, who has been in scintillating form in the ongoing IPL 2024, is only 73 runs away from becoming only the fourth batter to score 4000 or more runs in the IPL as an opener. In 103 innings, the right-handed batter has racked up 3927 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike-rate of 136.26. All of Kohli’s 8 hundred in the IPL have come while opening the batting.

In addition to this, Virat Kohli is also 4 sixes away from becoming only the fourth batter in the history of the IPL to hit 250 sixes. Chris Gayle (357), Rohit Sharma (264), and AB de Villiers (251) are leading the 6-hitting charts for the time being.

Despite his superhuman efforts with the bat in hand, RCB have struggled to find their feet in the tournament. Bengaluru are currently struggling at ninth in the table with 2 points and a net run rate of -0.843 courtesy of wins in 1 out of 5 games.

Virat Kohli’s contribution was the major highlight and vital cog in RCB reaching to 183 in their 20 overs in a recent match. This is Kohli’s joint-highest score in the Indian cash-rich league. Before this, he made 113 vs Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2016, a season where he was a different beast altogether.

Kohli is the first player to get to 7500 runs in the Indian cash-rich league. He began the match at 7466 runs and needed 34 to reach the milestone. Kohli and Faf du Plessis had an association for 125 runs for the opening wicket. This was the 28th time the 35-year-old has been involved in a 100-run stand in IPL.
