The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 12, 2024, was not just a cricketing spectacle but also a stage for some light-hearted banter. The protagonists of this friendly exchange were none other than RCB’s Virat Kohli and DC’s Ishant Sharma.

Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma go 1-1

The banter began during the first innings when RCB was batting. Kohli, facing Ishant’s second over, struck him for a boundary and a six. This prompted a brief exchange of words between the two players, adding a dash of humour to the intense game.

However, Ishant had the final say in this duel. Two deliveries later, Kohli nicked a wide ball to the wicketkeeper, departing for 26 runs. Ishant celebrated with elation before engaging in a friendly exchange with Kohli. In a playful celebration, Ishant tugged at Kohli’s jersey, who responded with a slight smile and a nod.

The banter didn’t end there. When DC was chasing RCB’s total, Ishant came out to bat at number 11. He was greeted by Kohli’s applause, again exchanging light-hearted banter. Kohli, while shining the cricket ball, approached Ishant, stood at the non-striker’s end, and exchanged a few words with his old friend. Ishant responded with a few words before Kohli erupted into laughter.

Their on-field exchange added a unique flavour to the match, reminding everyone that cricket is as much about camaraderie as it is about competition.
