IPL 2024: Sikandar Raza Welcomed To Punjab Kings By Vice Captain

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza was recently welcomed by Punjab Kings vice-captain Jitesh Sharma ahead of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League. PBKS are set to collide with Delhi Capitals in their opening match of IPL 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mohali on Saturday, March 23.

Sikandar Raza, was bought in by PBKS in the IPL 2023 auction for a base price of Rs 50 lakh. He had played 7 matches in the IPL last season where he picked up 3 wickets and scored 139 runs with a match-winning 57 against Lucknow Super Giants.

Last season, Punjab Kings had finished eighth, missing the playoff spot by four points. Though they got off to a dominant start in IPL 2023, PBKS managed to win six of their 14 matches, while losing eight. This was the 14th time that Punjab Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs in 16 seasons in the IPL.

The Punjab Kings team added eight new players during the recent mini-auction held in Dubai. They signed Harshal Patel (for Rs. 11.75 crore), Chris Woakes (for Rs. 4.20 crore), Ashutosh Sharma (for Rs. 20 lakh), Vishwanath Pratap Singh (for Rs. 20 lakh), Shashank Singh (for Rs. 20 lakh), Tanay Thyagarajann (for Rs. 20 lakh), Prince Choudhary (for Rs. 20 lakh), and Rilee Rossouw (for Rs. 8 crore).

PBKS is hoping that the new stadium will change their fortunes in the IPL. Interestingly, they are among the three founding teams that have never won the IPL trophy. The other two teams are Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
