IPL 2024: Aakash Chopra backs Rohit Sharma to regain form at Eden Gardens vs KKR

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been a roller-coaster ride for Mumbai Indians’ (MI) star batter, Rohit Sharma. Despite a few high-scoring innings, including an unbeaten 105 off 63 balls against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit’s form has been inconsistent. However, former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that the upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens could be a turning point for Rohit.

Rohit Sharma plays at his favourite Eden Gardens

Eden Gardens, often referred to as the ‘Mecca of Indian Cricket’, holds a special place in Rohit’s heart. It is here that he has amassed over 1000 runs, including 6 fifties and 1 century, in 33 innings at a strike rate around 130 in IPL. His record against KKR is impressive, with 1051 runs, including 6 fifties and 1 century, in 33 innings. This includes a memorable century in his 8th innings against KKR while representing Deccan Chargers in 2008.

However, Rohit’s recent form has been a cause for concern. After a promising start to the IPL 2024 season, Rohit has seen a steep dip in scores. His strike rate has not been great, and experts have raised concerns over his form ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. He has registered low scores of 8, 4, 11, and 4 against DC, LSG, KKR, and SRH respectively.

Despite these setbacks, Aakash Chopra has backed Rohit to return to form against KKR at Eden Gardens. Speaking ahead of KKR’s final home game in IPL 2024, Chopra said that Eden was Rohit’s favoured ground and the batter might get a big score against KKR. “I am thinking Rohit Sharma will finally score runs because it’s been four or five consecutive games now, and runs haven’t been scored on the bounce at all. He likes this ground and the opposing team as well. So Rohit Sharma is my first player to watch out for,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel while previewing the KKR vs MI game.

The match between KKR and MI is set to take place at Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 11. This game is crucial for both teams as they look to secure a spot in the playoffs. For Rohit, it’s not just about leading his team to victory but also about regaining his form and silencing his critics.
