Mumbai Indians(MI) has suffered yet another loss, thanks to MS Dhoni and co. as this time around Chennai Super Kings(CSK) registered a 3-wicket win in a blockbuster clash in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Thursday, April 21 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
MS Dhoni wins it for CSK; MI’s winless streak prevails
Heading into the match, the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings made a couple of changes to their side. The Yellow Army replaced Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan with Dwaine Pretorius and Mitchell Santner. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians made three changes, bringing in Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams and Hrithik Shokeen. Winning the toss, Chennai skipper Ravindra Jadeja invited Mumbai Indians to bat.
Mukesh Choudhary, who returned with 3 wickets ran through the Mumbai Indians’ top order. He managed to remove both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for duck in the powerplay as the tough time continued for the Blue and gold outfit. He then scalped the wicket of Dewald Brevis for seven and at one point, MI were reduced to 23/3 in the first three overs.
Mitchell Santner affected further damage by taking the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav (32). The hard-hitting Kieron Pollard also fell prey without making an impact as he cheaply departed. However, it was the youngster Tilak Varma who notched up a brilliant half-century to help Mumbai get out of a precarious position. Varma’s spirited knock of 51 runs propelled Mumbai to a decent total of 155/7 in the stipulated 20 overs.
Chasing 156 to win, Daniel Sams struck big blows but Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu played sensibly to take the game deep where MS Dhoni picked up and provided the momentum.
MS Dhoni and Pretorius came up with major strikes when CSK required 42 runs off the last three overs and while the latter departed, MS Dhoni had no problems in finishing off the game in style with a boundary. Unadkat conceded the 16 runs off the last over as MI succumbed to their seventh loss of IPL 2022 season.
