Mumbai Indians(MI) tallied a comfortable victory by five wickets against Chennai Super Kings(CSK) in the 59th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) on Thursday, May 12 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
CSK’s race for the playoff ends
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. It was Daniel Sams who ran through Chennai’s top-order with three wickets in the powerplay, while Jasprit Bumrah and Riley Meredith plucked one each to leave the opposition reeling at 29/5. The CSK skipper MS Dhoni registered 36 runs off 33 balls as the Yellow Army could only post a 98-run target.
Daniel Sams was in hot form for MI and took three wickets, Riley Meredith and Kumar Kartikeya bagged a dismissal each. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Ramandeep Singh took a wicket each to bundle CSK for 97 runs in 16 overs.
Chasing a target of 98 runs, MI reached 103 for five in 14.5 overs with Tilak Varma playing an unbeaten knock of 34 runs off 32 balls. Rohit Sharma-led side had stuttered at the start but Varma alongside Hrithik Shokeen revived the innings. It was Tim David who hit a 7-ball 16 to steer Mumbai to a five-wicket win. Meanwhile, Mukesh Choudhary took three wickets for CSK.
