Mumbai Indians(MI) registered a comeback win by 5 runs against Gujarat Titans(GT) are set to face in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) on Friday, May 6 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians register their second win in the campaign against the table-toppers GT
GT won the toss and opted to bowl. Mumbai Indians posted 177/6 in 20 overs after being invited to bat. The side had made a strong start to the game, with MI reaching 63/0 in the Powerplay. However, Rohit Sharma’s (43) dismissal triggered a collapse for Mumbai Indians as no player in the middle-order could forge a rebuild, with Ishan Kishan (45), Suryakumar Yadav (13) and Kieron Pollard (4) departing cheaply.
In the end, Tim David’s late cameo (unbeaten 44 off 21 deliveries) helped Rohit Sharma’s side reach a strong score in the game. An unbeaten knock of 44 runs off 21 balls by Tim David helped Mumbai post 177 for six in 20 overs. On the other hand, GT bowlers, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson and Pradeep Sangwan took a wicket each for the side while Rashid Khan also bagged a couple of dismissals.
Chasing 178 runs, it was a brisk start for Gujarat Titans as they raked up 54/0 in six overs. Saha took care of the run-scoring in the first five overs before Shubman Gill turned up the heat against Ashwin in the final over of the Powerplay. The Rohit Sharma-led side made a poor start with the ball as the duo of Shubman Gill (52) and Wriddhiman Saha (55) added 106 runs for the first wicket.
However, Murugan Ashwin’s twin-wicket over, where he dismissed both batters turned the tide in Mumbai’s favour as no batter from Gujarat could forge a rebuild. Rohit Sharma and co. managed to make a brilliant fightback towards the ending stages of the game to defeat Gujarat Titans by five runs.
