IPL 2022 – Match 46 Review: MS Dhoni returns to captaincy role with a triumph over SRH

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings(CSK) registered a huge win over SunRisers Hyderabad(SRH) in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) in the second clash of the doubleheader on Sunday, May 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

After being asked to bat first, the opening pair, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 182-for the opening wicket. Gaikwad in the process also completed his 1000 runs in IPL and slammed a 33-ball 50, before falling to T Natarajan on 99.

His partner Conway also completed his half-century, which was his maiden in IPL, and returned unbeaten on 85. Chennai posted a whopping 202 runs for two in 20 overs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad smacking 99 runs off 57 balls. Meanwhile, Devon Conway hammered an unbeaten knock of 85 runs off 55 balls. For SRH, T Natarajan bagged two wickets for their bowling department, conceding 42 runs.

In response, SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson gave the side a strong start before Mukesh Choudhary struck twice in the final powerplay over. Sharma was dismissed for 39, while Rahul Tripathi was packed for a golden duck.

Aiden Markram was the next man to depart as he was dismissed on 17 by Mitchell Santner. Williamson hung around in the middle until the 15th over before getting out on 47. In the end SRH fell short of 13 runs as MS Dhoni starts his captaincy stint with the Yellow outfit with a triumph.
