Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) registered a 6-run win against Delhi Capitals(DC) in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) in the first clash of the doubleheader on Sunday, May 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Mohsin Khan impresses with the ball to seal the victory for LSG
LSG skipper KL Rahul had won the toss and chose to bat first. He also confirmed that K Gowtham replaced Avesh Khan in the playing XI. Coming on to bat, Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul gave LSG a strong start. The duo added 41 runs in the first four over. Shardul Thakur gave DC the breakthrough, removing de Kock.
The skipper and Deepak Hooda then dominated the middle overs and went on to hit fifties as the side posted a whopping total of 195 runs for three. Rahul (77) and Deepak Hooda (52) added 95 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed. For DC, Thakur took three wickets.
Chasing a target of 196, Delhi Capitals lost three wickets early. Dushmantha Chameera gave LSG a flying start, removing Prithvi Shaw in the second over. Mohsin Khan emerged to be the stand-out bowler as he then dismissed David Warner in the next over. Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh, however, put DC back in contention by hitting boundaries at regular intervals.
Ravi Bishnoi had earlier castled Lalit Yadav after K Gowatham had dismissed Marsh. Soon, LSG took control of the match after Mohsin Khan struck once again to dismiss Rishabh Pant. The star player of the previous outing, Rovman Powell remained the key to DC’s hopes of winning the match but that did not last long when Mohsin Khan plucked the dangerous man. He also wiped Shardul Thakur to tally his fourth wicket of the match. DC fell short of 6 runs at the end to relinquish the points.
