IPL 2022 – Match 44 Review: Mumbai Indians end eight-match losing streak after a nervy finish

Mumbai Indians(MI) managed to end the losing streak after defeating Rajasthan Royals(RR) by 5 wickets in the 44th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) in the second clash of the doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rajasthan Royals were jolted early by Mumbai Indians. Batting first, openers Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal got off to a cautious start. Padikkal fell to Hrithik Shokeen. Buttler remained key to RR’s chances of putting up a big score after MI picked up two wickets.

Jos Buttler took on Hrithik Shokeen and hit the spinner for 4 successive sixes as he completed yet another fifty in IPL 2022 before being dismissed for 67 runs. RR finished 158/6 at in 20 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin’s cameo in the end provided the finishing touches to the RR innings. Samson was removed by the debutant Kumar Kartikeya.

After a solid start, MI lost openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in quick succession. While Ravichandran Ashwin removed skipper Rohit for 2 runs, Ishan also departed soon. Kieron Pollard, Tim David Keep played brilliantly in the end. Kieron Pollard, Tim David kept playing brilliantly, in the end, to help MI reach close to the target of 159 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied MI after fall of early wickets. Suryakumar completed a brilliant fifty off 36 balls with a six off R Ashwin before getting dismissed for 51 runs. Daniel Sams hit a huge six to help MI register their first win of the season by five wickets.
