IPL 2022 – Match 41 Review: Rovman Powell steers Delhi Capitals back to winning ways

Delhi Capitals'(DC) Rovman Powell propelled the side to a victory against Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) in the 41th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) on Thursday, April 28 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Delhi Capitals had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a shaky start. Chetan Sakariya, who made his debut sent Aaron Finch to dressing room on 3 (7). Out-of-form Venkatesh Iyer too departed cheaply on 6 (12).

Kuldeep Yadav then inflicted double blows in his first over, removing Baba Indrajith on 6 (8) and Sunil Narine on a golden duck. The skipper Shreyas Iyer then went to add some crucial runs in the middle before he was dismissed on 42 by Kuldeep, who then went to remove Andre Russell to on 0 in the same over. Nitish Rana was the standout performer for KKR with the bat, blasting 57 runs off 34 deliveries before he got out against Rahman in the final over as KKR finished the innings at 146/9.

For DC, the debutant Chetan Sakariya and Axar Patel picked up a wicket each while Kuldeep Yadav managed to bag as many as four dismissals. Mustafizur Rahman also tallied three wickets.

Delhi Capitals stumbled starting the run chase as they lost Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh inside the first two overs. Shaw was dismissed by Umesh Yadav on a duck, while Harshit Rana dismissed Marsh on 13 (7).

It was the ace batter David Warner, who then built a solid 65-run stand with Lalit Yadav, before Umesh broke the partnership, dismissing Warner on 42. Capitals then lost Lalit and Rishabh Pant in quick succession. Axar Patel then tried to pick up the momentum but he was run-out on 24 (17).

Rovman Powell then steered the Delhi unit home, finishing the match with a maximum crossing the 147-mark to tally 150/6 on the board. Rovman Powell returned unbeaten on 33 off 16 balls. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav has taken two wickets for KKR and Harshit Rana has bagged a dismissal.
