IPL 2022 – Match 26 Review: KL Rahul’s stupendous ton sets back MI on the losing streak

Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) skipper KL Rahul played a huge part in registering an emphatic win against Mumbai Indians(MI) in the 26th match of the Indian Premier League(IPL) in the first clash of the doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Both the sides made one change to their playing XI as Fabian Allen got in for Basil Thampi in MI team and Manish Pandey replaced Krishnappa Gowtham in LSG team. Mumbai Indians had won the toss and opted to bowl first.

It was the Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul who rose up to the occasion and notched up a majestic 103* to help Lucknow Super Giants finish with 199 for 4 in the stipulated 20 overs. He brought up the milestone in the 19th over of the innings. He along with Quinton de Kock got LSG off to a great start before the latter was trapped lbw by Fabian Allen.

KL Rahul remained at the crease and resited the bowling offense of Bumrah. He looked patient along with Manish Pandey through the middle overs. But after Rahul looked set, he took on every bowler. Allen conceded 18 runs in his final over while Mills gave away 54 runs in his final over. Bumrah was the only economical over while Unadkat’s final over prevented LSG from reaching 210.

While chasing 200, Mumbai Indians were off to a bad start. Dewald Brevis scored a quickfire 31 but his innings was cut short as he was dismissed by Avesh Khan in the 6th over of the innings. In the very next over, Stoinis bowled Kishan and Mumbai struggled in the run chase. The 64-run stand between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma came to an end in the 15th over as Jason Holder dismissed Tilak. Surya also soon departed after scoring 37 runs. Mumbai Indians fell short of 18 runs as they remain winless in the 15th edition of the cash-rich league.
