Here are four players who are unlucky to miss out on the Indian squad:

1. T Natarajan

Revealed: Why T Natarajan Wasn't Included In BCCI's Central Contracts For 2020-21

T Natarajan had a wonderful start to his international career. He was one of the standout performers on the Australian tour in 2020-21 and even played a critical role in India’s win in the decider ODI against England in March 2021. But injuries proved to be a major hurdle for Natarajan. However, the left-arm pacer returned to IPL with a bang. He was one of the top wicket-takers in the competition and the highest wicket-taker for SRH. But selectors went for young Arshdeep instead which meant Natarajan had to lose his spot in the team.

2. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal was India’s one of the mainstays in the Indian test squad until a year ago. But a poor string of performances in South Africa and against Sri Lanka at home found the talented opener out of favours. A poor IPL season where he was captaining Punjab Kings also played a crucial role in Agarwal’s ouster from the Indian test squad. The presence of Rohit and Rahul as openers and Shubhman Gill as a backup pushed Mayank as the fourth opener. However, Mayank may still get a green light for the England tour as Rahul has been ruled out of the series.

3. Mohsin Khan

After this IPL, it looked like India’s search for a left-arm bowler will finally come to an end as there were many outstanding left-arm bowlers this season. Arguably most impressive of them all was Mohsin Khan. He has become the leader of the attack on LSG in his short IPL career. Khan also has the ability to bowl at 150 kmph. His ability to swing the ball, and bowl in the powerplay, and the death overs make him a versatile bowler. Many predicted that Mohsin may find a place in the Indian camp for Ireland but selectors picked the same bowling line-up which played against South Africa.

4. Rahul Tewatia

Indian

Many IPL performers such as Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson were included in the squad for T20Is against Ireland. However, the selectors ignored Rahul Tewatia even after his heroic performances in the recent IPL. Tewatia is probably one of the unluckiest cricketers in recent times. He was included in the squad for T20s against England at home in March but didn’t get a chance to play and was ultimately left out of the squad. Then Rahul was never considered again. Given how Rahul played the role of a perfect finisher for Gujarat Titans and helped them win the title this year, it was unfortunate for him to miss out on the tour.
