IND vs SA 2nd Test Day 4 Review: South Africa level series after historic chase; India’s wait continues

South Africa managed to defeat India by seven wickets on Day 4 in the 2nd Test Match against India at Wanderers in Johannesburg. However, the hosts who were eyeing to finish the proceedings as early as possible, couldn’t utilize the first two sessions of Day 4 as they were washed out due to rain. It was decided in the final session, 34 overs will be bowled if there would be no further rain. India scored 202 and 266 in their two innings and South Africa after having scored 229 in their first innings were in pursuit of 240 runs and achieved it comprehensively.

Dean Elgar, who was looking strong at the crease since Day 3 against the Indian bowling attack had frustrated the Indian bowlers as South Africa are close to the target of 240 against India at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

He was moving strong and scored a brilliant knock of 92 runs not out. The Indian ace pacer Mohammed Shami was the only wicket-taker for Team India on Day 4 as the veteran pacer removed Rassie van der Dussen to break an 83-run third-wicket partnership.

Previously on Day 3, in the chase of 240 against India, South Africa started on a strong note to their 2nd Innings. South Africa captain Dean Elgar added 47 runs for the first wicket with Aiden Markram before Shardul Thakur picked the first wicket in the fourth innings, dismissing Markram.

The hosts had lost their second wicket as India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin removed Keegan Petersen after the No.3 batter added 46 runs with skipper Dean Elgar for the second wicket at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

The third and final Test match, which will be the decider is set to be played between January 11-15 at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
