IND vs WI 2nd ODI Review: India defend 238 to seal series with a game to go

India headed into the 2nd ODI against West Indies with a win in the opening clash. In the second ODI of the 3-match series, the hosts picked up a 44-run win on Wednesday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The stand-in West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran had won the toss and opted to bowl. India put on a defendable score of 237/9. The Indian bowlers did well to restrict West Indies and eventually bundled them at a paltry score of 193 runs.

KL Rahul joined the squad in the second clash after he was unavailable for the first game. His Karnataka teammate Mayank Agarwal was also available for selection. The first ODI saw Ishan Kishan opening with skipper Rohit Sharma but the former was replaced in this match. While speaking about the visitors, while Kieron Pollard was rested for the West Indies side due to a minor injury.

In the match, Suryakumar Yadav emerged with a knock of 64 runs that helped the Rohit Sharma-led side to a total of 237 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs. He and KL Rahul added 91 runs for the fourth wicket after India’s top-order failed. Deepak Hooda played a decent cameo down the order as India managed to reach a respectable total.

The Windies faltered against the aggressive bowling of the Men in Blue. Similar to the first ODI, they failed to put on huge score and were bundled for 193 runs as the hosts secured a win by 44 runs. Prasidh Krishna has been the star performer for India with the ball, taking four wickets. Deepak Hooda, who picked his first international wicket and Yuzvendra Chahal also picked a wicket. Shardul Thakur was able to scalp a couple of wickets of his own.

India and West Indies will play the formality third ODI match at the same venue on Friday, February 11. The former would be eyeing to attempt a clean sweep.
