IND vs SA 3rd Test Day 1 Review: Virat Kohli falls short of ton as India post 223

The highly anticipated third and final test match between India and South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town is underway. The returning captain Virat Kohli fought alone for India as the side posted 223 runs in the first innings. The side got bundled after the South African bowlers made a huge comeback to dominate the visitors. Virat Kohli was unable to score a ton after a brilliant fightback. At Stumps of Day 1, South Africa stand at 17/1.

Virat Kohli missed out on the ton after showcasing a great captain’s knock of 79 runs. He top-scored for the visitors hitting 12 boundaries and a six in the process. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant started well with their innings but they failed to convert them into big scores. Pujara scored 43 and stitched a for a 59-run third-wicket stand with Kohli while Pant added 51 runs with the captain for the fifth wicket.

However, Ajinkya Rahane yet again failed in the middle-order as he managed to added only 9 runs to the Indian total. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada playing in his 50th Test, finished with impressive figures of 4/73, while Marco Jansen dismissed three Indian batters while Duanne Olivier, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi picked one each.

Coming on to bat, South Africa is going strong but Virat Kohli-led Team India were able to make an early breakthrough in the innings. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the home team skipper Dean Elgar (3) cheaplyOpener Aiden Markram and night-watchman Keshav Maharaj were batting on 8 and 6, respectively, at the close of play.

The hosts would be eyeing to continue with their build up and eventually gain the momentum on overcome the deficit of 206 runs on Day 2.
