India and Sri Lanka currently going head to head in the first Test match at Mohali. India posted a brilliant total of 357 at the expense of six wickets in 85 overs at Stumps Day 1 following the late heroics of wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant. After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bat. India has certainly taken command on an opening day and they are likely to carry on with their momentum on the Day 2 as well.
Rishabh Pant put on a show to guide India to a huge total
Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma gave a bright start to the hosts. However, they were dismissed after registering 33 and 29 runs respectively. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari were the two set batters who departed in quick succession in the second session, leaving India four down on 175. Hanuma Vihari was dismissed after a half-century and Virat Kohli narrowly missed out on a fifty after crossing 8000 Test runs in his 100th Test match.
Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer then kept the scoreboard moving to help India reach 199/4 at tea. The young pair continued to steady the innings before Shreyas fell in the final session to Dhananjaya de Silva. Ravindra Jadeja then teamed up with Pant as the two took India past 250 in the third session.
It was the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant who smashed 96 runs off 97 balls and narrowly missed out on a century in the final session. His stupendous knock which consisted of nine fours and four sixes put India in the driving seat after the collapse of the top-order batting lineup.
The Sri Lankan bowlers once again struggled with the ball as they were dominated by the Men in Blue. They tried to bounce back with Lasith Embuldeniya bagging a couple of wickets for the visitors. Meanwhile, Suranga Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Dhananjaya de Silva took a dismissal each for Sri Lanka.
