IND vs NZ 2nd Test Day 1 Review: Mayank Agarwal’s ton puts India marginally ahead after Ajaz Patel’s spin web

Team India’s Mayank Agarwal shone in the final and 2nd Test Match against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The series is deadlocked and both teams are eyeing to clinch a victory. Virat Kohli made his return to lead the team and he won the toss. The Men in Blue opted to bat on a surface that was under the covers due to rain. The day’s play started late by a few hours due to a wet outfield. India’s senior trio of Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma missed out due to injuries. Alongside, Kohli, Mohammad Siraj, and Jayant Yadav also made their way into the squad.

Mayank Agarwal and Ajaz Patel were stand out performers on Day 1

India started off pretty well and Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill were at ease against the New Zealand pacers. The duo brought up their 50-run partnership and looked to bat the entire first session.

The Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has completed his century in Mumbai Test and continuing his dominance against New Zealand. The Kiwis picked up wickets in quick succession. The opener was joined by Wriddhiman Saha after Shreyas Iyer was dismissed and both the batters have added over 60 runs for the fifth wicket.

Ajaz Patel is the only wicket-taker for New Zealand as he has taken all four Indian wickets till now. Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer were rebuilding the innings. But Iyer was wiped off in the final session and could only make 18. He marked Patel’s fourth wicket of the innings.

Wriddhiman Saha supported Mayank Agarwal as the duo stitched a crucial partnership for the fifth wicket. At the end of Day 1, India stands at 221 at the expense of four wickets and will be looking to put up a strong score on Day 2.
