According to Harbhajan Singh, Team India is the favourites to defeat Australia in their World Cup first match in 2023. On Sunday, October 8, the match will take place at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Preceding the ICC event, Harbhajan predicted that the Men in Blue would be full of confidence after defeating Australia in the ODI series and winning the Asia Cup 2023.
It is noteworthy that in their home series against Australia, Team India won the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in a row. But in the third and final match, the visitors did manage to save some face with a consolation victory of 66 runs.
In an interview, Harbhajan Singh went on to say that, given the spin-friendly conditions in Chennai, India is more likely to prevail there than Australia.
“It is 60-40 in India’s favor. India have played some very good cricket in the recent past. A young Indian team did very well against Australia in the ODI series, winning 2-1. The team also won the Asia Cup. So, they will be very confident at the moment,” Harbhajan said (0:15) in his latest YouTube video.
He said it is a huge advantage for Rohit Sharma and colleagues to start their campaign at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Added the former spinner for India.
“India have a very big advantage as the match is taking place in Chennai. The wicket over there will be slow. However, the good thing for batters will be the bounce. The bounce will be quite good. I don’t think there could have been a better venue for India’s first match.”
The much awaited encounter between Australia and India will go place day and night will begin at 2:00 pm IST. With both teams looking to start strong, the matchup promises to be fiercely contested.
