Delhi Capitals reach finals of WPL Season 2

In the last league stage game, the Delhi Capitals faced off against the Gujarat Giants. The Capitals’ bowlers put up a disciplined performance, restricting the Giants to a modest total of 126 for nine. The Giants’ decision to bat first did not yield the desired results, with the team finding themselves in a difficult position at 12/2 in the fourth over.

The Capitals’ chase was led by their captain, Meg Lanning, who kickstarted the chase with a flurry of boundaries during the powerplay. Despite a couple of early setbacks, the team remained composed.

Shafali Varma and Jemimah Rodrigues forged a crucial 94-run partnership, steering the team towards victory. Varma displayed her attacking prowess, scoring a quickfire 71, while Rodrigues provided solid support. The Capitals completed the chase with as many as 41 balls remaining.

This victory has not only secured the Delhi Capitals a place in the final but also ensured their position as table-toppers at the culmination of the league stage. They finished with 12 points, pipping the Mumbai Indians, who ended the group stage with five wins and 10 points.

Delhi will now wait for the result of the eliminator between 2nd place Mumbai Indians and 3rd place Royal Challengers of Bangalore that is scheduled on 15th March at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
