In what can be called a huge blow to both the Indian cricket team and CSK, Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of action for at least four months. CSK’s premier pacer has already been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2022 owing to his injury.
Chahar, who was recovering from a quadriceps tear at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, suffered a fresh back injury while bowling in the nets. This meant CSK won’t be able to avail of his services for the rest of the season. This is certainly a major blow for the four-time champions as they secured Chahar’s services for a whopping INR 14 crore at the mega auction, making him the second-highest buy of the auction.
Deepak Chahar‘s T20 World Cup dream hangs in the balance
He was initially set to join the team for the second half of the season. However, as per the Times of India, the latest scans suggest the right-arm pacer won’t take the field for at least four months. This puts dark clouds over his aspirations to feature in the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.
CSK is desperately missing the services of Chahar, who has a phenomenal record in the powerplay. Due to his ability to swing the ball both ways and his exceptional skills with the ball, Deepak Chahar is one of the highest wicket-takers in the powerplay since 2018.
If that’s not enough, the dasher is also a potent batter lower down the order, who even has two ODI half-centuries under his belt. Owing to all these factors, CSK didn’t mind breaking their bank to reacquire his services. However, it won’t pay them dividends this season as the Ravindra Jadeja-led side will have to operate without him for the entire tournament.
