David Warner hints at SRH retaining Kane Williamson as skipper for IPL 2022

David Warner had a nightmare of a season. He had set the bar very high for himself as he scored more than 500 runs in every season since 2015. But this year he couldn’t perform with the bat and his team was also struggling. As a result, Warner was dropped from the captaincy and the team midway through the tournament. Hence, Kane Williamson, who previously was the full-time captain of SRH in 2018 after Warner was suspended from international cricket, was appointed as captain.

However, Even Kane Williamson couldn’t do much in improving SRH’s performance any better. SRH ended the previous edition at the bottom of the points table with three wins and a poor net run rate of -0.545.

Nonetheless, David Warner reckoned that Kane may well resume his duties for the Orange Army in the upcoming season as well. “@yaazey6 make sure you keep supporting as my friend Kane will still be there, please,” Warner said while replying to a user on Instagram.

Warner and Williamson recently faced off in the final of the T20 World Cup 2021 between Australia and New Zealand. Both batters scored half-centuries, but Williamson’s 48-ball 85 went in vain.

SRH may want Kane Williamson to the captain: Carlos Brathwaite

IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 - SRH v/s CSK: Chennai restrict Hyderabad to 139 despite Carlos Brathwaite's late burst

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite who is known for his heroic performance in the 2016 T20 World Cup final and has also played for Sunrisers in the past, said that SRH may give the Kiwis’ skipper a chance to lead the team again. Brathwaite also said that the Sunrisers may undergo a complete overhaul after how they performed in 2021.

SRH may want Kane Williamson to be captain. Rashid Khan is a certainty. I certainly want Jason Holder to be a part of the mix as well. Having been a part of the franchise, one thing that the franchise has missed for a number of years is a reliable all-rounder,” Brathwaite was quoted as saying.
