IPL 2022 is finally done and dusted. The 10-team tournament witnessed some exemplary performances. Many records were shattered and new milestones were created. Amidst the hard battle between the 10 teams, Gujarat Titans lifted their maiden title. However, the performances of individual players for their teams should not go unnoticed during the season. In this listicle, we look at the best XI of the tournament.

Here’s the best XI of the IPL 2022:

1. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler had a record-breaking season which can be put at par with the season that Kohli had in 2016. Buttler did the unthinkable and matched Virat’s record of 4 hundred in a season. He scored 863 runs in 17 matches, winning the orange cap by a huge margin from the second-best KL Rahul. He unanimously grabs the opening slot.

2. KL Rahul

Rahul has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL. The LSG skipper has been scoring in excess of 500 runs every season since 2018. In this season, Rahul amassed 600 runs at an average of 51.33. Although he would be unhappy that his team could not cross the finish line, he still manages to get a spot in the best XI of the tournament.

3. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda had a breakthrough season. He was trusted to bat at the top of the order and Hooda delivered big time. The right-handed all-rounder scored 451 runs which included 4 fifties that came at a crucial stage and at an impressive strike rate.

4. Hardik Pandya (c) 

Hardik Pandya exceeded everyone’s expectations in this tournament. Not only did he lead his side to the trophy in his maiden season as skipper, but he also proved his critics wrong and displayed his all-round skills. Pandya hadn’t played competitive cricket since the T20 World Cup but ended the season with 487 runs at an average of 44 along with some crucial wickets and a player of the match performance in the finals. He is also the captain of the dream team of IPL 2022.

5. Liam Livingstone 

Liam Livingstone has made a name for himself as a power hitter in the cricketing fraternity. But he was yet to deliver in the IPL. However, the striker brought his A-game in this season as he finished with 437 runs at a strike rate of 182.08. He also chipped in with some crucial wickets and hit the longest six of the season which was hit at a distance of 117m.

6. Dinesh Karthik (WK) 

DK’s redemption season would be remembered for ages. Dinesh had such a phenomenal season that selectors were forced to recall the veteran cricketer. Playing a finisher’s role for RCB, DK scored 330 runs at an exceptional strike rate of 183.33 and won the Super Striker of the Season award.

7. Andre Russell 

Andre Russell has been a consistent performer for KKR and contributes in all three departments. This year too, the West Indian giant gave his heart out with batting and bowling. He was among the top wicket-takers with 17 wickets and scored 335 runs at an amazing strike rate of 175.

8. Wanindu Hasaranga 

The Sri Lankan wizard finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 26 wickets in 16 games. He was one of the main weapons for captain Faf in the middle overs as he foxed batters with his sharp googlies. Hasaranga also contributed in the field with his exceptional skills and saved valuable runs for his team.

9. Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal had one of the best IPL seasons in his maiden tournament playing for RR. He finished as the purple cap holder by picking 27 wickets in 17 games. Chahal was used in the Powerplay, middle overs, and even at the death and the chess champion did not disappoint. He played a critical role in RR’s successful campaign.

10. Umran Malik 

Umran Malik brought excitement into the season with his raw pace. Malik has the ability to bowl consistently at a 150+ pace, which is rare in today’s time. Malik also finished as the leading wicket-taker in the IPL among Indian pacers with 22 wickets under his belt. Malik has also earned a maiden call-up for the national team after his exceptional season.

11. Mohammed Shami

Shami played a critical role in LSG’s title-winning season. The Indian seamer was the leading wicket-taker in the powerplay. Shami created a unique record of picking the wicket of his first ball of the season and his last ball of the season. Shami ended the IPL with 20 wickets in his name.
