Ashes 2nd Test Day 1 Review: Labuschagne and Warner stand tall to leave Australia in pole position

After getting a comprehensive win, Australia are eyeing to pick up another win in the 2nd Test Match of prestigious Ashes against England which is currently underway at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The hosts had won the toss and opted to bat. The Aussies saw a major alteration in the team as Steve Smith, who made his return from infamous Sandpaper Gate in South Africa was named the captain in absence of Pat Cummins, who was ruled out after coming in close contact with a COVID positive case. At Stumps Day 1, Australia currently stands at 212 at the expense of a couple of wickets.

Labuschagne and Warner are eyeing to post a huge total

Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser were named the replacements for Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins respectively. While England opted to play an all-seam attack. Mark Wood and Jack Leach were benched for the veteran duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

Broad received his 150th Test Cap and became only the third England player to reach that mark after James Anderson and Alastair Cook. The England duo piled up pressure in the first hour of the day’s play. Harris felt victim to Broad in third over after being dismissed by an LBW. However, he was able to escape after a successful DRS review.

Harris lost his wicket to Broad following a spectacular catch by Jos Buttler behind the wickets. He departed for 3, with the score at 4-1 in the eighth over.

Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner took charge of the match and are striving to repeat a similar test. The pair took their time at playing out the first session. The hosts ended with 45-1 after the first phase of play.

The pair continued their fine form and the runs trickled after they settled in the crease. Both batsmen reached their fifties with Labuschagne largely being the anchor. They played the second session without losing their wicket. Warner got out in the nineties for the second Test running and this time around he missed the three-figure mark by 5 runs.

Labuschagne and Warner are going strong are eyeing to put a gigantic total on Day 2. While Labuschagne will be eyeing to tally yet another ton.
