Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), a new entrant in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, has suffered a significant setback with their fast bowler Shivam Mavi being ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Mavi, who was a part of the Lucknow-based franchise’s pre-season camp before the start of the season, hadn’t played a single game this season.

Shivam Mavi is ruled out of IPL 2024

Shivam Mavi, a talented right-arm fast bowler, was bought by LSG for 6.4 crore rupees during the IPL 2024 auction. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team, given his potential and the hefty price tag he commanded at the auction.

The nature of Shivam Mavi’s injury hasn’t been specified, but it’s severe enough to rule him out of the remainder of the IPL 2024 season. In a video released by the franchise, Mavi expressed his disappointment, stating, “I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well”.

This is the third instance where LSG has found one of their players being forced to pull out of the IPL 2024 season. It started with Mark Wood, who pulled out due to workload management, and they roped in Shamar Joseph. Recently, LSG also lost David Willey as well and had Matt Henry as the Englishman’s replacement.

The loss of Mavi is a significant blow to LSG, especially considering the team’s current standing in the tournament. As of now, LSG holds the fourth place on the IPL 2024 standings with four points and has a net run rate of 0.483. They had a disappointing start to the season after conceding a 20-run loss against Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, in their next two games, they clinched a win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The franchise has stated that it will support Mavi during his recovery process. “The franchise will continue to support Shivam and is committed to aiding him in his recovery process. We wish him a swift and complete return, and are sure he will be back fitter and stronger,” the franchise stated.
